Sciatica

Sciatica is a painful condition that occurs when the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back and down each leg, becomes irritated or injured. Sciatic nerve pain can sometimes be excruciating, often starting in your low back and radiating all the way past your knee. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body.

Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disk, bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine compresses part of the nerve. This causes inflammation, pain and often some numbness in the affected leg.

Some of the common causes of back pain and sciatica are Scoliosis, Spondylolisthesis, Herniated Disc, and Degenerative Disc Disease. Although the pain associated with sciatica can be severe, most cases resolve with non-operative treatments.
